ALMOST THERE!

Hello again,

God bless us all, but next Sunday is Christmas Eve! Advent seems to have flown and the holy season is almost upon us. This evening, Sunday 17th, we begin the spiritual countdown in earnest when we gather with our fellow Christians in the Village Church at 7.30pm for the Advent Carol Service. This will feature, as usual, the combined choirs of Immaculate Conception and St John’s Church of Ireland. We hope you’ll have time to stay on afterwards to ‘mix and mingle’ over a cup of tea in the Pastoral Centre.

At the moment the distribution of the Christmas Card and timetable to the homes of the parish is in progress – and, incidentally, if you feel called to this work perhaps you’d be so kind as to take a bundle for delivery to your near neighbours. The address-tagged bundles are at the Sacred Heart altar. Many hands make light work!

Our Christmas timetable is similar to last year. Our Penitential Service is in the Village church on Friday and 7.30pm. And just notice that since Christmas Eve is on Sunday the morning Masses will be as on Sundays, but there will be NO 5.30pm Mass in the Village Church on Sunday next – because the Vigil Masses for Christmas will be at 7.30pm (with Clondalkin Youth band) on Sunday (Christmas Eve) and at 10pm (preceded by some carols and Blessing of the Crib by Bishop Field at 9.50pm).

Finally on behalf of Michael Broderick, Chair of our Pastoral Council, I am asked to pass on the best wishes of the Council to our Secretary, Claire O’Connell, who is recuperating at home after an operation. In fact I do so also not only on behalf of the Council but on behalf of Claire’s many, many friends in the parish.

Go mba fad saolach thú!

BEITHLÍN BEO

THE MONDAY CLUB

Cabrini Lynch linked her presentation beautifully to the coming feast of Christmas.  She showed us slides of Annunciation, Nativity and Epiphany. These wonderful pictures painted through the ages by, it would appear, divinely inspired artists like Leonardo DaVinci, Michael Angelo, Raphael to name a few, cannot fail to infuse the beholder with the wonder and reverence depicted by the images and symbols embodied there. Thank you Cabrini, for your precious Christmas gift. Cabrini is an artist in her own right---she's currently got some pictures on exhibition at the James' Gallery in Exchequer St. and is thrilled to have representation at the Florence Biennial Exhibition.

Tomorrow 17th is Party Day. We hope that EVERYBODY will come; and please bring along your Party Piece!! We aim to be entertained!  We look forward to welcoming a surprise guest-----he is Cian Mac Cormaic from RTE.  He wants to have conversation with you as material for a series he's doing for "Morning Ireland".  Come along! let's have a great Party!!

CHILDREN’S CORNER

I bet you hadn’t heard of an old Irish Christmas tradition! It is said that on Christmas Eve on the stroke of midnight the animals kneel in adoration of the Baby Jesus.

Can you tell us of any other tradition? Ask your parents, or grandparents and let us know. Maybe Fr. Dave will have a sweet or two as prizes.

The winner of the quiz of two Sundays ago is Amy, 94 Floraville Avenue. The answer was of course Jesse Tree. Congratulations Amy and don’t forget to collect your prize from the Sacristy after Mass today

This week’s quiz

Using crayons, pencils etc colour this picture of Santa. We will have a prize for up and including 9’s and from 10s upwards. So it is important to include your age with your name. Your entries, as many as you like, to be with us next Sunday and at the latest by the following Wednesday morning to the Sacristy marked ‘Children’s Corner’
