IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CLONDALKIN

Funeral Ministry 14.03.10

FUNERAL MINISTRY

Hello again,
Last Tuesday we had an interesting combined meeting of two Pastoral Councils. Clondalkin welcomed Sruleen to a cup of tea and a chat about our mutual concerns. Clondalkin’s Chair, Louise O’Connor, welcomed David Martin, Chair of Sruleen, and some of his members to our monthly meeting. Such gatherings are encouraged by the diocese, since – to coin a phrase – “no parish is an island” – even more important now with the emerging diocesan policy of grouping parish resources. More about that in the near future.

But one of the interesting spin-offs of our chat was a new development in lay involvement that is taking root even in parishes near our own. It’s called Funeral Ministry. This is not to be confused with Bereavement Ministry – which provides support for those going through the bereavement process. As you know, we already have bereavement  ministry in our parish.

Those involved in Funeral Ministry are engaged in the immediate, sensitive aspects of the funeral and its liturgy. Some volunteers took training in this work, organised by the Diocesan Liturgy Resource group, and the result proved enormously helpful. If you would like to know more about this, there is a 3-hour Saturday morning course on 17th April in Tallaght. For details contact us – or the Liturgy Resource Centre (01-808 7554) website: www.litmus.dublindiocese.ie. You would be more than welcome – so please consider it.
